At MNSTRM we love the LGBTQ community and strive to highlight the unique style of queer women all over the world. We reached out to our favorite fashion forward influencers to get the inside scoop on their wardrobe, styling techniques, and more.

First up we have Elise Applegate from Austin, Texas. Check out her badass tomboy style, stunning photography, and the occasional workout inspo on her instagram @elisedont.

Who are you and what is your passion?

If you would have asked me about 6 months ago I would have told you fitness and kinesiology. That being said, in the past few months I have had a major shift. I don’t have a label for what my passion is yet, but I know that I am meant to inspire and help others be their most authentic self.

You have 60 seconds to put together an outfit. What do you wear?

Black joggers/ black hoodie/ black beanie, Nike kicks.

What's your #1 tip for putting together a cohesive look?

Don’t try to look like others, or better yet, just don’t worry about looking like others. When you do, the clothes wear you, as opposed to the other way around. I’m no profession fashionista, but If you feel comfortable and confident in your wearing people will feel that vibe.

What's your current favorite article of clothing?

No plug, but Androgynous Fox short sleeve pullover.

How does clothing fit into your everyday life?

The same way I imagine it does everybody’s, outside of its obvious utilitarian purposes. It’s also the fastest way to let people know what your about. It is the first thing any passerby will note. It is a form of communication to those you will and will not talk to. So, every time I step out of the house, it’s something I think about.

What's a style or trend that you just don't understand? What's a style or trend you wish you could bring back?

Cargo shorts? Why did that ever happen? Leave the excessively large pockets to the marsupials. Unless you are actually filling all of those pockets, you shouldn’t be wearing them. And if you are…. Let me introduce you to the novel invention… The backpack. As for a trend I want to bring back, ripped jeans. I know they aren’t that far gone out of style, but they got a bad rep.

Who do you look at for fashion inspo or advice?

Shoot. I wish I could say. Of course, I absorb all the looks I see on Instagram. I periodically find myself pulling some peaky blinder-equ vibes. I suppose I don’t actively seek out fashion, I just notice and pay attention as I go through life. Bring it back full circle to that whole idea of clothes being the first thing people take note of. Sometimes I’m that person.

Where can we find you?

You can find me on Instagram @ Elisedont or bebopping around Austin Texas.

We learned a lot from Elise, and we agree on all fronts (especially when it comes to cargo shorts - backpack is definitely the better option). For more LGBTQ style tips follow us on instagram @wearmnstrm or send us an email to share your own tomboy style at info@wearmnstrm.com
